Greetings from Columbus, GA!
As we prepare for our return to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe this week, we thought we would jump start our newsletter before we left America. We plan on being in Zimbabwe for 6 weeks, beginning July 15th, and will welcome Dr. Charles Calhoun along with dear friends, Mr. and Mrs. Don Asbell, on Sunday, July 23rd for 16 days. Steve and Dr. Calhoun will travel across the country to attend and to give lectures to the Zimbabwe Ophthalmic Congress from July 26-July 29th. Steve also plans on using Charlie and his wealth of ophthalmic knowledge to give lectures to medical students and residents at the government training hospital after the congress. Charlie will also join us in two rural eye camps in seeing patients and providing medical eye care.
Don and Carolyn Asbell will spend the majority of their time at a local school in Bulawayo called“Hope School.” Carolyn is an active member in the Epsilon Chapter Of Delta Kappa Gamma and this group has been involved for the past 3 years with assisting the headmistress at Hope School with her education, enabling her to be a qualified headmistress. They have also generously helped with providing sports uniforms and school supplies to the children at Hope School. Steve will once again be involved with teaching medical students at the local medical school as well as devoting more time to the Richard Morris Eye Hospital where he will continue to work alongside the local residents providing hands on teaching. We also plan on partnering with several local faith-based groups in Bulawayo to conduct a number of eye camps in rural village areas while here in Zimbabwe.
We thank you in advance for your support in committing to pray for us over the next 6 weeks as we travel and become the hands and feet of our Lord to many who are so needy in the beautiful land of Zimbabwe. We anticipate and look forward to the joy of many receiving their eyesight, and also relating to you how God is working in and through us.
Blessings to you,
Steve and Jane Beaty
