Dear Friends and Supporters,
Time is passing by rapidly here as we work and minister to the people of Zimbabwe. We will be saying goodbye to our friends from the US who have worked with us these last two weeks. Dr. Charles Calhoun and Don and Carolyn Asbell have enriched our lives here so much as well as the many whom they have served.
During their time here, Dr. Calhoun and Steve travelled to the far northern part of Zimbabwe where they participated in and gave talks to the Zimbabwe Ophthalmic Congress. While they were gone, Don and Carolyn Asbell accompanied Jane to Hope Primary School outside the city of Bulawayo where the Delta Kappa Gamma chapter has been involved for the past 3 years. They assisted in the classroom and initiated the setup of a school library. They were blessed to see progress in both the standards and growth at the school.
The team conducted two eye camps together, examining more than 400 patients and sharing God’s love with those who came with various eye diseases and needs. Dr. Calhoun and Steve gave a number of lectures to medical students and house staff at the teaching hospital in Bulawayo. They also launched a program to teach cataract surgical techniques to the doctors, and this will continue while we are in the country. We hope that the standard of surgical skill will be raised to a new level of excellence in patient care.
Thank you once again for your support and prayers as we continue our work. Steve will be performing surgery on a middle-aged man this week with advanced glaucoma in his only seeing eye. This will be a significant challenge; we would appreciate your prayers for skill and success.
We look forward to sharing with you again soon all that God is doing in our ministry here, and we ask for your continued prayers.
Steve and Jane Beaty
