Dear Friends and Supporters,
Once again we thank you for your prayers and support since our last message to you. We have continued to find the needs here very pressing, and we have worked hard to help as many as we can, along with teaching and mentoring other doctors here in Bulawayo.
Steve is continuing to teach cataract surgical techniques at the Richard Morris Eye Hospital, the eye referral center for the whole southern part of Zimbabwe. He has been encouraged to see progression in the skills of the young doctors who are keen to learn at that hospital.
Our hearts have been broken to see the vast and desperate health care needs of the people in Zimbabwe, and to know that we cannot help everyone in need. But we will do what we can, and we have had the privilege of bringing eyesight and assistance to many.
Our last eye camp was held in a village school 3 days ago. We travelled about 110 miles from the city of Bulawayo and arrived to the sight of over 100 people waiting patiently for us in the hot sun. We worked hard all day; Steve saw over 150 patients, and Jane gave out 134 pairs of glasses. The Good News was preached and the local pastor and several lay leaders stayed on to minister to the people. We left late before dark to make the long drive back to Bulawayo. It was very busy and tiring, but was a fruitful day of service and ministry to many who had great needs.
Again, we thank you for your prayers – Zimbabwe has moved forward to a new government, and there is much hope. However, the common people still suffer greatly under economic hardship and lack of good health care. We pray for strength to continue the work here, and we will do our utmost to bring joy to as many as possible through our eye care ministry.
Steve and Jane Beaty
Eyecare To The Needy
