Dear Friends and Supporters,
We have completed another memorable and wonderful chapter of medical ministry in Zimbabwe and our hearts are full as we think back on all that God accomplished through us over these last 6 weeks. We would love to share with you a summary of the different dimensions of work and the experiences that we were able to take part in during our stay in Zimbabwe.
We delivered 13 lectures and talks on ophthalmic topics at various venues and meetings, including the Zimbabwe Ophthalmic Congress meeting. Dr.’s Bothun, Orge and Steve Beaty performed surgery on 18 different children, using the surgeries to teach a number of training eye doctors. We conducted 3 rural eye camps where a total of 375 patients were seen and examined and 202 pairs of glasses were dispensed. Steve led and mentored a total of 8 days in surgical training including cataract, pediatric, laser and oculoplastics surgery.
Our time of service this trip seemed shorter because of the busy pace we kept in order to help and teach as many as possible. On the morning we departed for the United States, the medical director of the hospital and the head of the ophthalmic department called us in to thank us for the work, teaching and expansion of opportunities for better eye care at the hospital. This meeting was a first and a wonderful experience as they expressed their gratitude to our team.
We thank God for allowing us the privilege and opportunity to go and share our skills and faith to so many in need in Zimbabwe and Southern Africa and we are already making plans to return in February, 2019.
One last bit of news; Jane has had a vibrant tennis ministry in Zimbabwe and arrangements were made for 13 tennis players and coaches to come to Columbus, Georgia on a ‘tennis tour’. They partnered with coaches and players in the tennis community, and enjoyed some of the attractions that the city and surrounding areas have to offer. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students, teachers and the friends partnering with us here in Columbus.
Thank you once again for all that you have done to support us in our varied ministries and work. The years gone by have allowed us to be used in a greater capacity to bring hope to the people of Zimbabwe.
May you be blessed,
Steve and Jane Beaty
