Dear Friends and Supporters,
We arrived back in the US after another long, 16 hour flight from Johannesburg to Atlanta on Monday, March 2nd, and are finally recovering from the jet lag that always hits us as we adjust to a 7 hour time change.
As we look back on our work and ministry in Zimbabwe over the last month, we are grateful to God for His provision and protection upon us. We saw a significant change in the country of Zimbabwe this time around as we worked and interacted with the local people and our friends. The economy has fallen, inflation is rampant, and the people there are suffering even more under the strain of the loss of buying power. However, as we worked at the Richard Morris Eye Hospital, we saw the gratitude and joy of those who received their eyesight back. It was an honor to serve so many who otherwise would have not had an opportunity to receive health care in a system where the doctors are on strike, and no elective surgery is being performed.
We also saw the churches of Bulawayo come together to minister and pray with patients, as well as feeding them a meal while they waited for their surgery. Steve was able to deliver 4 hours of lectures to the final year students at the local medical school, and taught various topics related to eye emergencies, systemic diseases and the eye and ocular side effects of systemic drugs.
We realize that so many were not able to be seen and have their eye problems addressed; we are already planning our next trip to return and work alongside our colleagues in teaching and bringing relief to the suffering of many who need our help in Zimbabwe.
Thank you once again for your support and prayer for us. We look forward to continuing to tell you of all the great things God is doing in and through us in Zimbabwe and Southern Africa.
Steve and Jane Beaty
