Dear Friends and Supporters,
We have arrived back in the US after a long 33 hour journey back home. As we look back upon our time of work and ministry in Zimbabwe we thank God for leading us and using us in so many ways. The COVID pandemic has hit Zimbabwe quite hard, and in our circle of friends and acquaintances in Bulawayo, we knew of five people who passed away from complications of the virus while we were there.
In spite of the difficulties associated with restrictions, curfews, mandatory masks, and prohibitions against the gathering of groups, we managed to see and treat over 500 patients. We also continued our teaching and mentoring in several surgical procedures as we have over these last 5 to 6 years. It was very encouraging to observe the doctors we trained now teaching the next generation of doctors in surgery. We believe we now have a self-sustaining program dedicated to teaching doctors who will continue to provide good healthcare in the southern part of Zimbabwe.
We were able to help several patients with serious eye difficulties who had been misdiagnosed, and it was a joy to give the correct treatment and improved prognosis as we worked through the process of examination and treatment. We feel that our presence and availability at the hospital to treat patients without charge has freed many to come and receive the gifts of our knowledge and skill to restore and save eyesight in many patients in the southern part of Zimbabwe. It has given us great joy to continue faithfully in the work that God has led us, and we look forward to our next visit possibly next January. Meantime, Steve is readying a crate with supplies to ship before the end of the year.
Thank you once again for your prayers and support as we continue to bring hope and blessing in Him to so many in Zimbabwe and southern Africa.
Sincerely,
Steve and Jane Beaty
