Dear Friends and Supporters,
We arrived in Bulawayo about a week ago after a long 37-hour journey from the United States. The hardest part of long-distance traveling is jet lag, which is still disrupting our sleep habits. With an 8-hour time change, our days and nights have been mixed up.
However, Steve has already had 4 meetings in preparation to start clinical activities for the trip. He has scheduled 4 tentative rural eye camps, lectures to medical students, surgical training at the Richard Morris Eye Hospital, and some consulting. He is also planning a clinical surgical study to compare different cataract surgical techniques here in Zimbabwe.
Jane has been somewhat handicapped with a broken bone in her left hand from a fall several weeks ago, which has limited her abilities to assist Steve in eye care work. We thank God that her injuries were not more serious, and that she is recovering quickly.
While we have arrived to find the country green and well-watered from a very good rainy season, we have also discerned a continued hopelessness in the people here who are suffering economically. Our purpose here is to bring encouragement and hope through both our skills in medicine and our message of hope through the gospel. We pray that many will be added to the Kingdom through our work and testimony these next 6 weeks.
Thank you for your prayers and support as we continue the work and ministry to which we are called here. We will keep you posted as our time here progresses.
Blessings to you,
Steve and Jane Beaty
