Dear Friends and Supporters,
We have recently returned from our mission to Brazil and completed our long, all night flight home from Rio De Janeiro. In spite of the travel discomforts though, we are overjoyed, and our hearts are full at what God did through us on this medical mission.
Our team consisted of 5 doctors including Steve, 2 dentists, and 6 others who assisted the doctors and dentists, ran the pharmacy, and witnessed to the patients who came. Our work was located at a church in a favella (a very poor part of Rio, controlled by drug lords). Each day as we entered the favella an escort would lead us to our destination. The drug lords had given their approval for our work in advance, so their motorcycle and vehicle convoy that led us gave the the young men guarding their area warning that we were coming and were friends.
Steve saw patients in a small, dark room while Jane and two others of our team fitted glasses in the church hall on those who needed them. Our various teams saw and treated people who had no access to appropriate medical care. More importantly, many of them had no knowledge of spiritual matters.
We, as a team, were blessed to see over 25 people welcomed into the Kingdom. Steve led 3 men to receive the Lord as their savior, and Jane also brought several women into faith as she shared with them the joy of knowing the Savior. One particular man came to the eye section with a hard demeanor, but after he heard the Good News and received the Lord, his countenance changed to one of indescribable joy. What a privilege we had to see the results of the spirit of God at work in that place, bringing people into the Kingdom and strengthening the church!
So, we thank the Lord for what He has done as we prepare for another trip to Africa in August,
and as Steve packs another shipment of equipment and supplies to send. He received word last
week that Eyecare To The Needy has been granted a new cataract machine by Alcon Corporation for the teaching program in Bulawayo. We are thrilled at this news as it will raise the level of training and eye care in Bulawayo and beyond.
Thank you once again for your prayers and support as we continue to use our God-given talents and skills to change the lives of needy people both physically and spiritually.
Steve and Jane Beaty
