Kenya Bound

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Well, last week we spent our last day in Zimbabwe for this year. We have flown up to Kenya to teach and do eye camps in a pilot project. As we look back upon these almost 7 weeks in Zimbabwe, we are filled with joy and gladness in what God has done through us. During this last week and a half, we conducted 4 eye camps and saw over 500 patients. Two of these were held in the very high density, poverty stricken areas of the city we are in, Bulawayo.

We had a team from South Africa join us, and together we poured our skills and love into those areas. We saw a number of sad presentations of end-stage glaucoma and blindness which cannot be reversed. Many patients had HIV, but with the World Health Organization distribution of anti-viral agents, there were no eye complications from this terrible disease. Jane and her team gave out over 300 pairs of glasses, and there was great rejoicing as some could now see clearly for the first time. The Good News was preached and shared, and a number of those who heard placed their faith in the Lord.

Steve taught the 4th year medical students at the NUST Medical School the use of the ophthalmoscope to examine the inside of the eye, and many were able to grasp the skill for the first time. His work at the Richard Morris Eye Hospital continued, and with a new shipment of equipment coming soon, the cataract surgical and laser capabilities of the department will be enhanced.

We look forward to sharing with you our experiences in Kenya, and ask for your prayers as we continue the work in a new geographic region.

Blessings to you,

Steve and Jane Beaty
