Lifting Spirits

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We landed in Zimbabwe a couple weeks ago after that long flight from Atlanta to Johannesburg and overnighting with some good friends in Pretoria, South Africa. When we arrived the next day in Bulawayo, none of our four checked suitcases arrived. So, our friend, Warren King, drove us to our home, and when the next flight arrived later that afternoon, we were notified that our luggage had arrived. We thank God for a smooth recovery process and arrival at the Bulawayo airport.

We ramped up our work and ministry even in the first week. We saw patients on two days, and Steve gave an hour of lectures, led grand rounds, and helped in surgery at the Richard Morris Eye Hospital. He also led a bible study with a number of young men a couple of days ago, and Jane also prepared a delicious supper for them. They were very attentive [ and enjoyed the good food! 🙂 ] and expressed their desire to meet weekly at our house to discuss different topics relating to youth conflicts and biblical perspectives.

Steve has been spending time assembling two lasers that were shipped and arrived a couple of months ago. He was able to get both of them working well. We are so grateful to Dr. Mark Wedul, through whom we received these valuable pieces of equipment that will be well used at our teaching venue.

Thank you again for uplifting us in your prayers as we continue to mentor, encourage and empower our Zimbabwe colleagues, and as we bring needed eye care to so many in this needy country.

Blessings to you,

Steve and Jane Beaty
