AIA tennis-Teaching kids and sharing faith

Hello, all Friends and Supporters;

It’s been quite an exciting, and also somewhat stressful period since leaving the US just over a week ago. Firstly, our flight from Paris to Johannesburg was delayed because of the weather, and we missed our flight to Bulawayo that morning. Steve counted a total of 18 hurdles for us from the time of disembarkation from Air France to our new flight to Bulawayo that left later that day. But thank God, we made it, and all bags were present and without any loss of luggage.

We arrived to encounter very cold and rainy weather, which is not typical for Zimbabwe winters. Thankfully, it only lasted a couple of days until the team of 12 tennis players and coaches landed. It has been beautiful since then, and the team has been conducting clinics and teaching sessions around the city, totaling 10 different schools, combining their skills with sharing their faith. They have seen many children come to faith as well as enthusiastically learn more of the sport of tennis.

Steve and Jane have been busy preparing meals for the team as they host them in Bulawayo. Jane has served dinners to up to 23 people at a sitting. Frequent trips to the grocery stores are part of her daily schedule.

Steve has been able to deliver a couple of lectures at the hospital, and to lead in ward rounds in the early morning, as well as spend a day consulting at the Mater Dei Hospital.

Mike Stewart, a board member of Eyecare To The Needy met with our local board and was able to hear of the goals and accomplishments of the work in Bulawayo. Our project to provide the only surgical retina training program in Zimbabwe is continuing to move forward.

We continue to see the great needs here, but we thank God for enabling us to bring hope to those who we encounter and minister to. Once again, we thank you for your prayers as we encourage and serve those in need.
