Thankful Return

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We have now returned back to the US, and we want to thank you for praying for us through our time in Zimbabwe. Looking back on the whole trip, we are very thankful to have had so many opportunities to use our skills and talents to help many underserved and needy people in the southern part of Zimbabwe.

We saw a total of 806 patients, dispensed 589 pairs of glasses, mentored in surgery for 23 hours, conducted 6 non-surgical eye camps and delivered 5 lectures. The needs in Zimbabwe are so great, though, that we left with heavy hearts because we could not see everyone who wanted to have their eyes examined. We have made a list of patients to see when we return to Zimbabwe in February, 2020.

Some of the highlights of this trip include watching my African colleagues as they successfully performed cataract surgery using the latest technology and procedures that we had taught them. They also saved several complex cases for Steve to perform and teach as they observed the successful procedure.

In addition, we had a close friend, Dr. Gordon Fort, and his wife, Leigh-Ann, visit us and lead a prayer conference, speak several times at churches, and assist in an eye camp. It was a privilege to work alongside lifelong friends.

We had a good discussion with the head of the eye hospital about bringing in eye doctors from the US next year, and cooperatively work with the local doctors in an extensive surgical eye camp. The suggestion was met with enthusiasm, so we will make preparations for that event.

The young lady Steve diagnosed with a brain tumor has had a successful procedure to relieve the increased pressure on her brain. However, a decision still needs to be made about the tumor itself. Thank you for continuing to pray for her (her name is Rosemary).

Again, we are deeply appreciative of your thoughts and prayers for us during our trips to Zimbabwe. We ask God to continue to lead us in the way that we should go in our ministry in Zimbabwe.

Sincerely,

Steve and Jane Beaty
