Dear Friends and Supporters,
We arrived back in the US about a week ago to end a very rewarding and productive trip to both Zimbabwe and Kenya. As we had mentioned before, we had been asked to conduct a pilot project in Kenya to determine if a ministry in East Africa is also something that God is leading.
We arrived in Nairobi to stay at a conference center called Brackenhurst outside the city and near Limuru. We had expected the weather to be warm because it is situated on the equator. However, at 7,000 feet elevation it was downright COLD with misty mornings and cold nights. We had only taken warm weather attire, so it was a significant adjustment for us.
We met with Dr. Steven Juma who had organized and set up our schedule. He wanted us to get started right away, and we travelled 2 hours in traffic that we can only describe as terrifying. The route took us down the escarpment to the Rift Valley into Maasai land. Dr. Juma had organized our eye camps at the clinic of a good doctor friend. We spent 3 days examining and treating people of the Maasai people group. Steve also gave hour long lectures to the staff at the end of each day of patient exams and treatment. The Maasai people had a very different language and culture than we have ever encountered, but they were very gracious and kind. They were also open to spiritual matters, and our team freely shared the Good News with them.
The leadership of Brakenhurst have asked us to return in the future. They felt that our work and ministry had a large impact upon the communities that we served. We will continue discussions and pray for guidance as we consider our roles in helping the people of East Africa.
Thank you for continuing to keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we endeavor to use our gifts and talents wherever we are called to help, assist, and mentor others. We look forward to sharing our next chapter of ministry with you as we continue the work to which we have been called.
Blessings to you,
Steve and Jane Beaty
