Teamwork in Action

Dear Friends and Supporters, We have now been in Zimbabwe for 9 days, and they have been full to the maximum.  We arrived on July 20th, and the next day 3 doctors and their families, a total of 10 of us, started work at the Richard Morris Eye Hospital in Bulawayo. We were joined by Dr. Bothun, Professor of pediatric ophthalmology at Mayo Clinic, Dr. Faruk Orge from Case Western in Cleveland, Ohio and his […]

A Great Year and More to Come

Dear Friends and Supporters, We want to give you an update of what has happened since we arrived back in late March from our latest trip to Zimbabwe. As we communicated to you in a previous message, we were able to continue surgical skills training with a focus on cataracts and other surgeries, and we were so pleased to observe the improvement in skills of the training doctors at the hospital. However, our last shipment […]

Lots of Learning

Dear Friends and Supporters, We have just concluded our latest trip of five weeks to Zimbabwe, and we look back with joy at what was accomplished during our ministry there. We continued the cataract instruction in the operating rooms of the Richard Morris Eye Hospital for the duration of the trip. It was a great blessing to see and observe the doctors and staff who incorporated new methods of patient management and surgery that we […]

Steady Hope

Dear Friends and Supporters, Once again we thank you for your prayers and support since our last message to you. We have continued to find the needs here very pressing, and we have worked hard to help as many as we can, along with teaching and mentoring other doctors here in Bulawayo. Steve is continuing to teach cataract surgical techniques at the Richard Morris Eye Hospital, the eye referral center for the whole southern part […]

Growing Closer

Dear Friends and supporters, As always, time has flown by, and we are almost halfway through our time of work and ministry here in Zimbabwe. The first week here was taken up with helping a team of 10 people from the Columbus, Georgia area who accompanied us. Dr. Butch Wolf, general surgeon, and his son, Dr. Luke Wolf, an orthopedic surgeon, spent time in the hospitals here with their counterparts, Drs’ Magara and Musasenure. They had […]

Heading Back to Beauty

Dear Friends & Supporters, As we prepare to depart on another mission to Zimbabwe, Africa, we also rejoice in a short trip we took to Jamaica last weekend with a team from Dublin, Georgia to assist in eye surgery. There was a backlog of 35 patients needing cataract operations, and we flew down to spend two days in the operating room with them. It was a joy to see the expressions of delight as the […]

Zimbabwe Praises

Dear Friends and Supporters, Having recently returned from Zimbabwe, we thank God and look back with joy over what happened during our stay there. We also rejoice in remembering the lives of people who were impacted by the work and attention that they received in their physical and spiritual eyesight. One of our memorable patients whose life was greatly affected was a 41 year old man who is the breadwinner for his extended family. He […]

Serving Together

Dear Friends and Supporters, Time is passing by rapidly here as we work and minister to the people of Zimbabwe. We will be saying goodbye to our friends from the US who have worked with us these last two weeks. Dr. Charles Calhoun and Don and Carolyn Asbell have enriched our lives here so much as well as the many whom they have served. During their time here, Dr. Calhoun and Steve travelled to the […]
