Dear friends and supporters;

Well, it’s been a tough period of time our last correspondence. A week ago, Jane, Rebekah, who is our daughter, and Ellie, our granddaughter began having terrible headaches and high fevers. We urgently had testing performed for malaria on them, and it was positive.

We immediately began anti-malarial treatment, and Steve and Robby, our son in law, nursed them through several nights and days. Steve continued with his planned scheduled of patient consultations and lectures through all of this.

We are so thankful for so many prayeres that we uplifted for us, and after three days, the symptoms began to abate. Rebekah’s sickness was the worst of the three, and she had signs of kidney involvement, but thank God that she has greatly improved before she and her family return to the States tomorrow.

Steve conducted two eye camps this past week, saw patients in consultation at the eye center, and gave several lectures.

One particular lady in her late fifties came to the eye camp at the Bulawayo Baptist Church with loss of vision over several years. She had previously indergone radial keratotomy (an operation on the cornea to reverse nearsightedness) many years ago, and had seen doctors in South Africa who recommended a very expensive surgical intervention which she could not afford.

Steve examined this lady, and found that her eyes had gradually become far-sighted, more on the left. The night before the eye camp, he was measuring glasses to sort those suitable to take to the eye camp. He measured a pair which turned out to have the exact power that this lady needed, and felt impressed to take them to the eye camp. What a joy that this particular pair fit this ladies’ eyes exactly, and a pair of sunglasses had these odd powers to give her great vision! What a wonderful gift of God’s grace to her!

So, it ‘s been a difficult week, but also a week of joy as we continue to help so many in need. Thank you for your prayers for us.
