Dear Friends and Supporters,
Greetings and a very Happy and Blessed New Year to you. We hope and pray that 2022 brings peace and prosperity to you.
We are grateful to God that in 2021 we were still able to accomplish much in our work in Zimbabwe. We had the privilege of bringing several doctor groups together in a cooperative effort to bring more accessible eye care to the population of the southern part of Zimbabwe. We also set up an eye surgical unit at the Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo to allow the local eye doctors who we have trained to have a facility to perform eye surgeries. The reputation of the eye unit has grown, and patients from as far away as Botswana have come for their surgical eye care. Because of COVID, we were not able to have as many rural eye camps as we desired. However, we were still able to link up with several faith-based organizations to see and treat over 1,000 patients over the course of our time of ministry.
2022 has not changed the issues surrounding the COVID pandemic. However, we have plans to travel to Zimbabwe in the next month. We look forward to our trip to southern Africa where we will work and minister in Zimbabwe for more than 6 weeks, and we travel with the knowledge that God will watch over us, and we have entrusted our lives to His care. We appreciate your prayers as we prepare for this next chapter in our ministry and work. Steve will continue his role as a visiting lecturer at the NUST faculty of medicine. He will also continue his surgical training at the Richard Morris Eye Hospital. We hope that the rules in Zimbabwe will be lifted to allow for large groups of people to gather. If so, we will resume rural eye camps where there is so much need, and where opportunities for evangelism and church planting will be possible.
We hope and trust that your New Year is full of blessing and joy, and that this year will bring peace and safety to you and yours.
We look forward to sharing with you the great things that God will accomplish in Zimbabwe as we continue our work and ministry in bringing eye care to so many in need.
Steve and Jane Beaty
