Dear Friends of Eyecare;
We write to you rejoicing once again for the Lord’s guidance and protection this last week. Last Sunday Dr. Timothy Sipos, a retina surgeon, and Andrea Fenton, his fiancé who is an endodontist, arrived to begin a week of teaching their skills to our local colleagues. Despite jet lag, both went to work the next morning, teaching and passing skills to their respective training doctors.
Dr. Sipos gave intensive hands-on training both in clinic and the operating room while Dr. Fenton taught root canal procedures to her dentist colleague here. Dr. Sipos had several challenging cases: he performed an artificial lens implant exchange, teaching Dr. Moyo, the trainee, a technique requiring a special skill set. On another patient he performed a difficult retinal detachment on a 14-year-old girl to restore vision in a blind eye. These experiences brought treatment to patients who would have not received care otherwise and gave Dr. Moyo further experience in retina surgery.
We also held another eye camp at church in the city with Jane’s sisters and brother-in-law, who had just arrived from the States, helping and working alongside us. We examined and treated over 120 patients, among whom some had advanced glaucoma and cataracts. We are so blessed to now have a laser for glaucoma treatment to offer these needy patients. The Gospel was preached, and we pray that many responded to the call to receive Jesus as savior.
Please keep us in prayer as Steve now works on the application process for a permanent residency status. If we are granted this, it will enable us to continue to work and live here without paying $600 yearly.
Once again, we are thankful to God for His hand of guidance and protection here as we use skills and talents to bring hope to so many. Thank you also for your prayers for us.
Steve and Jane
